Strategic Priorities Inspiring Excellence One Student At A Time The Student-Centered Accountability Program (S-CAP) is a system of accountability proposed and designed by a group of Colorado rural school districts. At the heart of Student-Centered Accountability is a focus on the success of well-rounded students using a system for continuous improvement. To accomplish this, the districts use multiple measures of student success to expand results beyond a single state test score. Classroom assessments, as well as dispositions that characterize a successful student, are used to provide more meaningful and comprehensive data to describe student achievement and growth. In addition to student results, S-CAP believes evaluating the capacity of the systems that support student success is an essential function of accountability. S-CAP uses an on-site audit of districts to evaluate the system components needed to support student success. With both comprehensive student success data and ratings from on-site reviews, local school boards are able to monitor performance and ensure the district continuously improves its capacity for the purpose of student success. Strategy #3 Engaging families and community while capturing kids hearts and captivating their minds. Strategy #2 Inspire students to explore their gifts and prepare them for the future. Strategy #1 Ensure district wide innovation through the development and delivery of differentiated and personalized learning to all students. The program is led by Science Seminar instructor and research biologist Loree' A. Harvey, who's biography and background you can read here . Ms. Harvey has been sponsoring research students in the Monte Vista School District since 2005, and has led the Science Seminar program at the high school since the 2014-15 school year. National Geographic Science Fair Documentary Science Fair: The Series SCIENCE FAIR: THE SERIES showcases students working to solve the world’s most complex and pressing issues using science while competing for a coveted spot at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the most competitive science fair on the planet. It’s an inspiring, character-driven, coming-of-age story played out on a global stage where students push themselves to the limit but never miss an opportunity to uplift one another. Monte Vista High School students were very fortunate to be showcased in this National Geographic Series, and we hope that watching our students overcome the challenges of doing great science in a rural, underfunded area inspires students across the world to think big, ask questions, conduct research, and see where your dreams and motivation can take you!! Gary worked tirelessly for over 33 years to guide and support students in their research endeavors and established the proud and long-standing tradition of excellence in STEM that the Monte Vista School District continues to nurture today. Under Gary's tutelage, 128 students have competed at the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair, and 45 of those have been selected as Finalists for the International Science and Engineering Fair. Thank you Gary for your amazing dedication and contributions to the pursuit of science in the Monte Vista District! Competition Archive Results
